Freedom AW14 launch - copper, moody blues and tropical trends

I was lucky enough to go to the Freedom Autumn Winter 2014 launch in Sydney yesterday and came back with a head full of ideas and three clear trends - cosy + copper, moody blues, and Havana-style tropical.

Metallics have been huge in the past year in interiors and copper is my favourite of the metallics; you've probably seen it popping up everywhere recently. I'm particularly obsessed with the Utzon pendant lamp by the Sydney Opera House designer Jorn Utzon, at Great Dane Furniture. Yum!

Freedom has some gorgeous copper in the new collection, including the lamp above with either slim or Edison-style bulb, and a great task lamp for desks or bedside tables. They are going to be snapped up like hotcakes. There are also lovely copper wire bowls and  vases. I have the copper-top vase below, centre, which looks perfect in our Seventies treehouse.

Moody Blues
The art of shibori has been popular in the last few years and the deep, moody, indigo blue hues are available in a range of homewares. The blues turn up in ceramics too, including these sweet vases that reference Jonathon Adler's style. Adorable with a bloom or a small potted fern or succulent on a child's dresser.

Bahama-style Tropical
Prints with palm leaves, monstera leaves and other tropical motifs have been massive recently, and continue with an expanded range at Freedom. This time it's a slightly more colonial tropics - think Tommy Bahama and add a dash of Moroccan, earthy touches, and plenty of wood.  If you've got monstera deliciosa growing in your garden or nearby, pop a leaf into a vase for instant style cred.

The Beni Ourain rug craze comes to Freedom with an affordable interpretation that would look amazing in a little one's room. As would these sweet rhinos.

Which style are you loving at the moment?
