No More Telephone Books Thank You

If, like me, you haven't used an actual telephone book for years (and simply dump them in the recycling bin as soon as they arrive), you can now tell Sensis directly that take you off the delivery list!

Please take the time to click and fill in your details; this initiative will greatly reduce the amount of phone books that are printed, and that end up in land-fill (let alone take up valuable resources in a recyling plant).

Click here to go to Directory Select, and go to 'cancel books'. YAY!

BrisStyle Handmade Ark for QLD Flood Relief

The amazing cooperative of designers in Brisbane with Etsy stores (known collectively as BrisStyle) have pulled together to raise funds for the QLD Flood Relief. I've already mentioned their Handmade Ark project on the Shop The Flood! post, but there are so many generous artists giving above and beyond, that I wanted to highlight a few more for you. Thank you wonderful BrisStylers for your extreme generosity!

Australia Day Pavlovas

I hope you all had a fantastic Australia Day holiday, wherever you are. We celebrated with friends at the beach in the morning and then Mr Bondville cooked up a storm with prawns, asparagus, chicken and corn on the BBQ in the afternoon, followed by my red, white and blue Aussie Day pavlovas. Cute huh!

Kristen Doran for The Wall Sticker Company

Well last year, the post about the The Wall Sticker Company collaboration with Lara Cameron was one of your favourite stories, so I thought I would share another partnership that Fiona and Jen have just announced with one of my favourite designers - Kristen Doran.

Sydney-based Kristen always has her finger on the pulse and creates beautiful designs for fabric and is a favourite here at Bondville headquarters. We have matryoshka-appliqued onesies, matroshykas integrated into my big girl's special quilt, and little matryoshka softie dolls that I have sewn and stuffed for playing with.

In a similar style to the matryoshka dolls, check out Kristen's kokeshi doll design for wall stickers. Too cute huh! But the really mind-blowing design for me are the crochet granny square wall stickers. Kristen, you are a genius!!!! So many of us are labouring over our crochet (or too timid to try) and now we can get the look with your nifty sticker designs. Fab-o.

You can find Kristen Doran's wall sticker designs at The Wall Sticker Company website. While you are there check out her other gorgeous designs.

Hip Products: Ah-Tissue

Did you happen to notice the tissue paper poms featured in the Shop The Floods! auctions? The fluffy pom decor kits are from the lovely Daneve Frankish from Ah-Tissue (and also from Chicuff by Daneve - featured here on Bondville).

Daneve has done a fantastic job of making it very easy to add poms to your own event/house/nursery/space with perfectly pre-cut, pre-folded and strung poms in every colour of the rainbow. All you need to do is fluff (with accompanying instructions and practice pom).

Of course these flower-like balls look amazing at weddings and parties, but are also a great every-day decor item. Get yourself some tiny clear 3M sticky hooks (used for fairy lights) and pop them on the ceiling - it's really so easy.

Creative Daneve has taken the pom concept and run with it; she also stocks a range of pom celebration sticks, mini poms, doily poms, pom garlands, pom cupcake toppers (my favourite!), tiny poms for napkins, tables and wrist corsages, and her original pom paper art.

You can find Brisbane-based Ah-Tissue paper poms in the online store. Wishing you all the best Daneve!

Your 5 Favourite Posts of 2010

Last week I was compiling your favourite 5 posts of December 2010 for the Bondville newsletter the and thought it would be fun to see what your favourite posts were for the whole year.

You all loved the For Kids category - by far the most popular section on the site. Some of the bigger posts from the last few years were still extremely popular - the tissue paper pom trend (still going!), the Australian cupcake directory, Kristen Doran's matryoshka doll craft panel fabric (another trend that's still strong) and the opening of Donna Hay's general store.

But let's look at what you loved from new content that I was writing in 2010 while managing a new baby and a toddler. Here we go!

1. Bondville Big Girls' Bedroom: with a new baby it was time for our big girl to take over the guest room, and boy did she do it in style with a divine new quilt from Nanna and tissue paper poms (again!) hanging above.

2. Bondville 3-year-old Birthday Party: my big girl's pink extravaganza for her 3rd birthday. Everyone loves a party pic or two!

3. Hip Products: MOZI Cockatoo Lamp: I'm glad that you all love cockatoos as much as I do. I'm kind of obsessed. Which is why this lamp from MOZI is perfect for me.

4. Lara Cameron For The Wall Sticker Company: Last year The Wall Sticker Company were clever to partner with some amazing Australian designers and release limited edition wall stickers using their designs. I love Lara's birch tree design translated to wall art.

5. Hip Products: Bholu Wallpaper: Another clever company collaborating with Australian designers (and I'm all about that) is Porter's Paints who last year released a fantastic selection of Bholu-designed wallpaper for adults and nurseries. I have a small corkboard in our baby's room that I covered up with Majorie the Duck wallpaper in papaya. It's gorgeous.

Loved your picks! Let's see what 2011 brings us.

Stylish Kids: Trellis Design

I have found so many amazing Australian kids clothes designers through the Shop The Flood! appeal for the QLD floods. One brand that really stood out was Trellis Design - a Brisbane-based label featuring gorgeous handmade clothes and accessories for girls age 1-6 years.

The detail in Trellis Design clothing is spectacular. I just adore the ruffles, yo-yo's and swirls. And how about that playsuit (tell me you had one when you were a kid too!). Most of the Trellis Design clothes are one-of-a-kind creations. If you see something you love, you'll have to snap it up quick! You can also contact Trellis Design creator Penny directly for specific size and availability requests.

Look out for a boys' collection coming soon. You can find Trellis Design on MadeIt online. Check out the Trellis Design Facebook page for more details. Congratulations Penny on a gorgeous label for kids!

Lah Lah's Big Live Band at The Famous Spiegeltent

Have you seen The Famous Spiegeltent at Hyde Park, part of The Sydney Festival 2011? Built in Belgium in 1920, it's a fantastic antique "European Mirror Tent"; one of only a handful left in the world. Inside the circular tent it's all cosy saloon seating around a circular central dance floor and stage.

The spiegeltent just seems custom-designed for cabaret, circus, and burlesque. It reminds me a lot of the venue for Teatro ZinZanni that we saw in San Francisco (oh look - that was a spiegeltent too!). It was a thrill to step inside and feel the vibrations of countless shows and late nights from all over the world.

We were lucky enough to enjoy a rollicking show by Sydney's own Lah Lah's Big Live Band - a brilliant jazzy band for kids. Check out our favourite song:

I highly, highly, highly recommend getting along to a Lah Lah's Big Live Band performance if you can (there is a show in June 2011 at the Sydney Opera House for years K-6) - they are fun to watch, energetic, the music is brilliant and the kids adored it. Ah, Sydney in summer!

Thank You

Flowers for you! Thank you so much for having patience with me while I have had terrible technical difficulties with Blogger. This may even prompt a move over to Wordpress. I have been locked out of the site for over a week (and still am) but have managed to find an ultra-sneaky work-around so that I can edit and create posts again. Hooray! It's been frustrating, to say the least.

I'll now update the Shop The Flood! post with lots more fabulous designers donating goodies, time and effort to the QLD Flood appeal. In the meantime, I've been posting over at Bondville Kids (super cute ruffled bloomers and heavenly dresses for little girls) and Steph Bond.

Oh, and the flowers? The very last bunch of hydrangeas from our garden. Just for you.

Steph

The Last of the Hydrangeas

We are soooo lucky to have gorgeous hydrangea bushes in our garden - mostly white with a slightly pink or blue tinge. As they age, they turn a lovely vintage green. This is our very last bunch. See your fluffy heads next year :)

First Birthday Cupcakes

Sigh. My baby is not a baby anymore. She's a sweet, funny, happy one-year-old with four teeth and no hair. Too cute. We were at Nanna and Pops' place for her birthday, just after Christmas, and celebrated with rainbow cupcakes and cherries. Happy Birthday little one!
